To maximise external funding opportunities from a variety of regional, national and international funding sources in order to allow Donegal County Council to carry out work and achieve objectives by delivering projects that would not be otherwise funded within the annual budget allocation.
The objectives of the Strategic Funding Unit are as follows:
To coordinate a cross-directorate strategic funding strategy fostering proactive project development, network and consortium facilitation and maximising external funding opportunities aligned to our key priorities and strategic objectives set out in the Donegal County Council Corporate Plan 2020-2024.
The Strategic Funding Unit will continue to nurture and develop both cross-border and transnational networks and partnership consortiums.
Sourcing regional, national and international funding to the support achievement of the strategic objectives set out in the Donegal County Council Corporate Plan 2020-2024.
Carry out a Funding Needs Analysis and identify priority funding requirements.
Coordination of a cross-directorate strategic funding network within Donegal County Council.
Adopt a proactive approach and develop a portfolio of projects for which appropriate funding can be sourced.
Share knowledge & expertise in project funding, development and delivery with Council Teams.
Deploy an internal communication strategy to inform Council Teams about funding opportunities.
Support the development of new project applications.
Identifying networks and partnerships of benefit to Donegal in a local, regional, national and international context.

The Strategic Funding Unit is a section of the Econonomic Development Division in Donegal County Council responsible for assisting in the development of Donegal County Council projects and sourcing of funding on a cross-directorate basis. Funding sources may be EU, national or regional. The aim is to deliver projects that would not be possible if external funding was not sourced. A proactive approach to project development is important and the Strategic Funding Unit is seeking project ideas that can be further developed and added to a portfolio of projects. When a suitable funding call opens, it will be possible to match funding calls to projects already in development.
